Mwami Adventist Hospital was established in 1927 by Dr. E. George Marcus and is a pioneering mission hospital located about 30 km southeast of Chipata in Eastern Zambia. It serves a catchment population of approximately 85,000 to 100,000 people from the Luangeni political constituency and surrounding areas. Starting with very modest beginnings—including performing its first surgery outdoors under a mosquito net—the hospital has developed into a well-established healthcare institution. It now features 210 general beds and 40 extended care beds, operates multiple clinical departments, and is supported by local staff and international volunteers. The hospital is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church Southern Zambia Union Conference and runs a School of Nursing.
