St. George Hospital, Mumbai, originally known as the European General Hospital, has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Established in 1677 and opened to the public on December 20, 1892, it is one of the oldest hospitals in Mumbai. The hospital was founded following the reforms of Gerald Aungier, the second Governor of Mumbai, who shifted his headquarters from Surat to Mumbai in 1672 and initiated several developments, including the construction of Fort George. A fragment of this fort still forms part of the hospital's eastern boundary wall, giving the area its name—Fort. 

Currently, St. George Hospital operates under the administration of the Government of Maharashtra and is part of the Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, which includes Grant Medical College, JJ Hospital, GT Hospital, and Cama & Albless Hospital. The hospital is located near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in the Fort district of Mumbai.
