Shaheed Hospital was built in 1983 by the mine workers of Dalli Rajhara, under the leadership of Shankar Guha Niyogi, as a direct response to the unmet healthcare needs of the laboring and marginalized population. Entirely constructed and managed by workers, the hospital stands as a symbol of collective action, self-reliance, and the broader people’s health movement. It is dedicated to providing rational, affordable, and evidence-based primary and secondary healthcare to mine workers, tribals, and surrounding villages within a 150 km radius. The hospital is also a distinguished center for training health professionals and is renowned for its ethical, egalitarian, and patient-centered approach.
