Established in 1955, the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the earliest TCM hospitals in China. It integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, and rehabilitation. The hospital operates two campuses in Jinan, covering a combined floor area of 207,000 square meters. As of 2016, it had 2,600 patient beds and handled over two million outpatient visits annually.
The hospital is recognized as a "National Clinical Research Base for TCM" and a "National TCM Inheritance and Innovation Project Construction Unit." It also serves as a "National Drug Clinical Trial Institution" and a "National TCM Examination Work Base." Additionally, it is among the first batch of national TCM resident physician standardized training bases. ​
The hospital aims to inherit and innovate TCM practices, provide high-quality medical services, and cultivate TCM talents. It emphasizes the integration of TCM with modern medical practices to enhance patient care and advance medical research.
The hospital has undertaken numerous national and provincial research projects, winning 22 awards for scientific research achievements at or above ministerial and provincial levels. It has published over 1,100 papers, with 76 included in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the Engineering Index (EI)
