Established in 1976, SCTIMST is an Institution of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It uniquely integrates advanced patient care, biomedical technology development, and public health research. The institute operates as a university, offering top-tier research and training facilities. SCTIMST has three main wings: a tertiary referral super specialty hospital (with about 250 beds), a Biomedical Technology Wing (pioneering medical device development and technology transfer), and the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies (public health research and education). SCTIMST is renowned for advanced cardiac and neurological care, indigenous biomedical device innovation (including India’s first artificial heart valve), and leadership in public health training and research.
