In order to cooperate with national policies and consider the medical care, medical education, and research development of veterans (family members) and the general public in the central region, the Executive Yuan Veterans Affairs Council approved the establishment of the "Taichung Branch of the Veterans General Hospital" on July 1, 1982. Medical operations began on September 16, and it was restructured and upgraded to the "Taichung Veterans General Hospital" on July 1, 1988. Since its establishment, the hospital has experienced the outstanding leadership and encouragement of many former and subsequent chairmen of the Council, such as Mr. Zhao Juyu, and the careful planning and active work of hospital directors such as Mr. Luo Guangrui. In 1984, it passed the hospital and teaching hospital evaluation and was rated as a "first-level teaching hospital", and in 1988 it was rated as a "quasi-medical center" . After five evaluations, it was rated as a "medical center and Class A teaching hospital" . In 2007 and 2011, the hospital passed the "New Hospital Evaluation and Teaching Hospital Evaluation", and in 2017, it passed the "Hospital Evaluation Excellent (Medical Center)" and "Physician and Medical Staff Teaching Hospital Evaluation Pass (Medical Center)", the highest level of evaluation. The inpatients are mainly acute and critically ill, and the medical quality and technology have been recognized, providing the public with safe, warm, and high-quality medical services. The hospital also creates a high-quality teaching and training venue, presents outstanding research and development achievements, firmly and steadily fulfills our established mission and mission, and truly shoulders the social responsibility of the "Health Guardian" of the national medical center.
