The First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University was founded in 1973. It was formerly the Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College. It was renamed the Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College in 1993, the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College in 2016, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University in 2024. It is a Class-A tertiary comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, health care, and emergency rescue.

The hospital currently has two campuses (Longhua Campus and Jiangdong New Campus), and is planning to build the Guoxing Campus. The Longhua Campus is located in the center of Haikou City, covers an area of ​​59 acres, and has 1,500 beds. The Jiangdong New Campus is located in Jiangdong New District, adjacent to the new campus of Hainan Medical University, covers an area of ​​254.5 acres, has 2,000 beds, and the building has been fully capped and will be completed in March 2025. The new campus is built according to the "fifth generation" hospital standards and is a key project for the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port. By then, it will better meet the medical and health service needs of the people.
