Sun Medical and Research Centre, established in the late 1980s, is Kerala’s first investor-owned multi-disciplinary super-specialty hospital. The foundation stone was laid by Pope John Paul II in 1986, and the first phase was inaugurated by President Sankar Dayal Sharma in 1992. The hospital was founded to provide advanced cardiac and multi-specialty care at affordable rates for the people of Thrissur and beyond. It is managed by an eleven-member board of directors and has played a pioneering role in the region’s healthcare landscape.
