This hospital was established in 2016 as an affiliated hospital of Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University. Its mission is to "support regional medical care in the Tohoku region." Its predecessor was Tohoku Koseinenkin Hospital, which began medical treatment at its current location in 1982, and was reborn as Tohoku Pharmaceutical University Hospital in 2013. In 2019, the new university hospital building was completed, and the number of hospital beds was increased from 466 to 600, the number of medical departments increased from 21 to 33, and the latest medical equipment was added. The number of doctors, which was about 80, has now exceeded 280. This year, 53 new nurses joined the nursing department, bringing the total to more than 600. Eight years after its establishment, the foundation for providing advanced medical care as a university hospital has been strengthened. In March of this year, the third batch of medical students graduated from the School of Medicine, and together with the first and second batches, 281 doctors have been sent out into the world as doctors. This April, we welcomed 36 new residents, including 25 from our first class. The total number of clinical trainees and residents at our hospital is now over 80, and we are steadily progressing as a medical professional training facility.
