Toronto General Hospital (TGH) is one of Toronto’s oldest hospitals, dating back to 1819 when the Loyal and Patriotic Society of Upper Canada organized a trust fund to support the construction and maintenance of a hospital in the provincial capital, the Town of York. Construction began in 1820 and the General Hospital of the Town of York was opened for patients in June 1829 at Simcoe and King Streets. As Toronto General, it expanded to Gerrard and Sumach in 1856 and then to College Street in 1913. The College Street location has since become the MaRS building, while Toronto General has spread out south along University Avenue.
Among its world firsts, TGH performed the world’s first successful single lung transplant in 1983, followed by the first double-lung transplant in 1986. In 1950, the first external heart pacemaker was used in an open-heart resuscitation. And in 1922, insulin was developed and saw its first clinical use in the treatment of diabetes on a young patient at TGH.

I was here for the Arrival Location:
Norman Urquhart Wing, 12th and I entered from the street car , walked upto the main building the reception guided me to use the yellow line on the floor to go to the 12 floor
The elevator premises and the washroom are very clean , the guidance is nice !

I would not normally write a review on a hospital, but I feel like I have to. My mother is currently in there after lung surgery. From the parking lot attendant to the information desk, Dr. Pierre- her surgeon, the anaesthesiologist and all of the nurses on 6B ….EVERYONE has been absolutely amazing with the care of my mother. This entire team of caregivers have gone above and beyond, not only for my mother, but also with myself and the many questions I have had. Witnessing some of the patients and visitors that they have to deal with and accommodate, I commend all of these people. I truly appreciate this hospital and everyone who I have come into contact with here.
You make a difference and I feel it in my heart and soul. Thank you.

I would just like to share our experience with this hospital. From the first initial consultation appointment with docotor to the.actual surgery was day surgery yesterday. This hospital to very professional and
organized. All staff can be identified wearing all the same color uniforms (scrubbs) their paitient updates via text and paitient number board updated promptly, why can't all of.our other hospitals follow the same practice. To all the doctor, staff that cared for my sisters sturinum plating yesterday thank you for making this experience flawless.
