1. Although not perfect the care here is exceptional. I waited 24 hours to see a doctor in calgary with my collarbone sticking out of my neck and a skull fracture.........so those complaining about a 1-2 hour wait don't know what they have!
all 3 of our kids were born here and the staff has always been super attentive and caring. Their surgery dept is amazing and go the extra mile to make sure patients are well taken care of.
2. Staff inside Emerg. are super thoughtful, sensitive and helpful. The main Hospital reception has been great at finding answers to my unusual information requests. I'm not sure why there are many bad reviews but some of them sound like expectations are not in line with how medical care works in our country. Also it does sound like there are staff shortage issues in certain areas, I hope we don't complain so much that staff don't want to work there, making the situation worse. Down in B.C. I have waited upwards of 8 hours in Emergency (on multiple occasions), so I think we are better up here.
3. I mean, it's a hospital. It's not perfect, but my personal experiences there have mostly been positive...most of the nurses are really good...there are of course a few grumpy ones, a few snooty ones. The emergency department can be a pretty long wait sometimes with some sketchy folk, but if you're the "squeaky" wheel...in a lot of pain, or they can see that your situation is more urgent than the others, then you will get in faster. The first time I gave birth there, they did forget to bring me meals for the first two days...but it was my first stay in a hospital and I had no idea they were supposed to feed me, so it took a while for them to realise...that was pretty bad I suppose...but just as well, because the food there is nothing to brag about anyway!
