Dr. Ian Purcell is a Consultant Cardiologist with over 30 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1990 with honours and completed his BSc in Medical Sciences with first-class honours in 1988. Dr. Purcell pursued his MD at Imperial College London, awarded in 1999. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) since 1993 and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

Since 2002, Dr. Purcell has been a Consultant General and Interventional Cardiologist at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, where he also serves as the Clinical Director of Cardiothoracic Medicine. In addition to his NHS roles, he practices privately at Spire Washington Hospital and Nuffield Health Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital.

His clinical interests encompass all aspects of general cardiology, with a particular focus on coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, and novel therapeutic agents. Dr. Purcell is also involved in research related to coronary CT imaging and the development of new treatments for heart conditions.
