Dr Rebecca Mair

Dr. Rebecca Mair was born and raised in Sydney, where she also completed her medical studies at the University of Sydney. After moving to Tamworth with her family to complete her GP training, Dr. Mair graduated as a Fellowed GP in 2011.

With over 10 years of experience, Dr. Mair enjoys the broad scope of care that general practice offers. She has a particular interest in perinatal care, but what she loves most about her work is the variety of patients she cares for, ranging from newborns to patients over 100 years old. This variety enables her to develop lasting relationships with patients throughout different stages of life.

Outside of work, Dr. Mair cherishes the regional lifestyle of Tamworth, where she lives with her husband, four children, two dogs, and other animals including chooks (chickens) and a resident blue tongue lizard. Dr. Mair also has a passion for gardening, particularly growing vegetables and native plants from seeds. She enjoys spending time in her bush oasis, engaging in bushwalking, hiking, swimming, and beach holidays where she loves paddle boarding. Additionally, she has a love for sampling baked goods made by her patients!

Dr. Mair values the community atmosphere in Tamworth and the benefits of regional living, such as the quieter lifestyle, easy access to her hobbies, and the ample opportunities for her children to grow up in a safe, close-knit environment.

Dr. Mair has not been heavily involved in formal research but has contributed to several community health initiatives, especially in perinatal care and preventive health. Her research interest revolves around improving healthcare access for rural families, particularly regarding maternal and child health. She is also an advocate for integrating more sustainable health practices in rural settings, which includes improving community health education and engagement.

She works closely with local organizations to promote perinatal education and has contributed to local seminars and workshops aimed at supporting new mothers and families.
