Dr Tawfiq Choudhury is a highly renowned and experienced consultant interventional cardiologist based at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre (LCC), Blackpool Victoria Hospital— the designated regional heart attack centre serving Lancashire and South Cumbria.
He graduated with distinction from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London, in 2005. During his studies, he also completed an intercalated BSc in Molecular Medicine at University College London, achieving first-class honours.
Dr Choudhury undertook his cardiology training through the North West training programme, gaining experience across major teaching hospitals and other centres throughout Greater Manchester and Lancashire. He also spent two years conducting research at the London Chest Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust), focusing on the role of stem and progenitor cells in heart failure.
This work earned him an MD (Res) degree. Following his UK training, he completed an 18-month fellowship in interventional cardiology at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Since 2019, he has served as a consultant cardiologist at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre. He carries out a comprehensive range of coronary interventions, addressing narrowing and blockages in the coronary arteries. In addition, he performs TAVI procedures (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), which involve replacing a severely narrowed aortic valve, typically via a minimally invasive approach through the groin artery.
