She works as a Senior Consultant Cardiologist at the University Hospital Santa Maria, Lisbon, where she has held various roles since 1994. Dr. Almeida is also an Associate Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon, and Head of the Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging Unit at the University Hospital Santa Maria.

Her expertise in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) and Cardiac Imaging has led her to establish the CMR and Echocardiography Units at the hospital. She has been the Vice-chair of the Cardiovascular Centre of Lisbon University since 2005.
