Dr. Faizan Mustafa

Dr .Faizan Mustafa has over 30 years of experience in legal education, research, and academic administration. He is highly regarded for his institution-building capabilities, having led the establishment of NLU Odisha and KIIT Law School. As Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR, he introduced numerous academic reforms, advanced interdisciplinary studies, and promoted inclusive education policies.He has served on various UGC committees, search panels for Vice-Chancellor appointments at National Law Universities, and remains actively engaged in governing and academic councils of several reputed Indian institutions.

Dr. Faizan Mustafa is a distinguished legal scholar with over three decades of extensive research experience in the fields of constitutional law, human rights, and intellectual property. His doctoral specialization in Copyright Law laid the foundation for a prolific academic career marked by a commitment to pioneering research in unexplored areas of Indian law. He has authored more than eight books and published over 100 national and international research papers across reputed law journals. His scholarly work has addressed critical and emerging issues such as Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, the Right to Die, Religious Conversion Laws, HIV/AIDS legislation, Strict Liability, and Mandatory Death Sentencing—many of which he engaged with long before they received legislative or judicial attention in India.

Dr. Faizan Mustafa is a highly respected academician, legal scholar, and institutional leader in the field of law. With a distinguished career spanning over 30 years, he has made significant contributions to constitutional law, human rights, and legal education in India. As the former Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, and the founding Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Odisha, he has played a pivotal role in shaping premier legal institutions. Prof. Mustafa’s academic journey is marked by a gold medal in LL.M. from Aligarh Muslim University, a Ph.D. in Copyright Law, and a postgraduate diploma in International and Comparative Human Rights from Strasbourg, France.
