Mr David Shields is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Glasgow who specialises shoulder stabilisation, rotator cuff repair and shoulder replacement alongside sports injuries, Dupuytren’s contracture and carpal tunnel syndrome. He privately practises at Ross Hall Hospital - part of Circle Health Group, while his NHS base is Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

After graduating with an MB ChB in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 2009, Mr Shields pursued advanced education with an MSc in Trauma Surgery from Swansea University and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Glasgow. He also holds a diploma in Medical Education from the University of Dundee. His extensive training includes three high-profile fellowships: the AO Trauma Fellowship in Switzerland, an Upper Limb Fellowship in Wrightington and a Trauma & Reconstruction Fellowship in Sheffield.

Mr Shields is an honorary clinical associate professor at the University of Glasgow, actively contributing to research and academia. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, edits McRae’s Orthopaedic textbook, and frequently presents at international conferences. Here, he leads a research team, supervises PhD and master's students, and secures academic funding from organisations such as Medical Research Scotland and the Medical Research Council.

Mr Shields is a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, Orthopaedic Trauma Society, Bone and Joint Infection Society (executive committee member), and British Limb Reconstruction Society (research sub-committee). He also engages in medico-legal work.
