Dudley Pennell is a distinguished professor of cardiology specialising in cardiac MRI based in London. His areas of expertise include cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease, heart disease, heart failure, thalassaemia, and nuclear medicine. With over 40 years’ experience, Professor Pennell also hold a position at the National Heart and Lung Institute, where he is also the section head for genetics and imaging. Notably, Professor Pennell serves as the director of the cardiovascular magnetic resonance unit and the director of non-invasive cardiology at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Professor Pennell qualified from St John’s College, University of Cambridge in 1983. He subsequently trained in cardiology at the renowned St Thomas Hospital and the London Chest Hospital, before going on to receive esteemed fellowships to the Royal College of Radiologists, the European Society of Cardiology, and the Academy of Medical Sciences, among others.

With over 580 research papers to his name, Professor Pennell is also widely regarded for his contributions to the field of cardiac imaging, including as senior investigator emeritus for the National Institute for Health Research. Furthermore, Professor Pennell was recognised with the prestigious Gold Medal Award from the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Research.
